  • PHP or ASP.NET?

Which would be better to develop a website - PHP or ASP.NET?

  • #2
Generally speaking, PHP is suitable for web application development, so it is easier to write PHP code for HTTP-based applications.
ASP.net is complicated as compared to PHP due to the overall .NET architecture and it's C++ inheritances. On the other side, provides lots of generic functionality.
So if you are an expert in .NET and C++, you can go for ASP.NET.

      1. There are certain costs associated with ASP.NET (As ASP.NET is a Microsoft product) development whereas PHP is completely free to use.
      2. ASP.NET and PHP, both, are highly scalable.
      3. PHP uses extremely popular frameworks for web development such as LAMP, and thus, has been optimized extensively for improved performance as compared to ASP.net
      4. Easy availability of tools and editors of PHP and ASP.net.
      5. First time users of ASP.NET hard to pick up. PHP, on the other hand, is very easy to pick up.
      6. PHP ranks as the 6th most popular language online whereas ASP.net couldn't managed to get any position in top 20's.

Generally, PHP is more suited for web application development, it is a language created for with that purpose in mind, so it is easier to write PHP code for HTTP based applications. PHP written mostly in C so it is pretty easy to extend it and build modules for your needs.

ASP.net is more complicated due to the overall .NET architecture and it's C++ inheritances. On the other side provides lots of generic functionality (you don't always need, but might save you when the unexpected happens).
