  • .htaccess deny unable to work

I am running Apache 2.4 with a .htaccess file in the root dir with the below param
    Code:
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    allow from x.x.x.x
    # a few rewrite rules...
The .htaccess file works by putting garbage in and getting a 500 error.
After accessing root dir with the .htaccess file, I'm able to access the index.php, but the formatting is way off. I think can't access the css files, located in a subdir.
After deleting the above lines, the website looks fine.
Tried in Google Chrome Incognito and clearing cache. Also tried in mobile safari on my mobile network.
Other domain on shared server with same .htaccess file configs work properly giving a 403.
    I don't knw what's wrong? Any ideas.

Is this the ultimate issue you're running into? If yes, it could cause other issues in some configurations.

Setting AllowOverride Limit (or All) for that document root would be better.
